Reading Rampage is a month-long program of fun activities to celebrate "
Read Across America" during the month of March. For 2013, we kick off the festivities with many activities to help students and their families explore the wonderful world of reading and literacy:

Young Authors Project (March & April)
Each child will be creating, writing and editing an individual book. This will be done in the classroom with the teachers assisting through the process. The project will continue into April to allow enough time for each child to finish their book and participate in a school-wide Writing Celebration on April 4th. We hope the children unleash their creative spirit in words! Note: We will be requesting $2.00 per student for the cost of each book. Look for more information and order form that will be coming home with your child on Monday, March 4th.

Favorite Reading Lists (entire month of March)
Students will be asked to comment on their favorite books and write a book review. These book reviews will be collected and organized as a reference tool. The list will be available to parents and students at Peter Kirk to use as a favorite reading list for each grade level. Knowing that a classmate enjoyed a book is sometimes the best recommendation!

 |
Family Reading Night (March 14th, 6:30-8:00pm)
Come in your jammies and enjoy an evening of reading and fun! This event will start in the gym and we will break off in groups around the school to continue reading with some special reading guests!

"Drop Everything & Read" (March 25-29)
A yearly favorite with the kids! Have your child carry a book everywhere with them during the week. Mrs. Dennehy and staff will be ‘sounding the alarm’ when it’s time for everyone to stop what they are doing and pick up a book. Reading will last 10 minutes at a time and could happen more that once a day. So be prepared with your favorite book.

 |
Book Swap (entire month of March)
During the month of March, please donate any type of children’s book that is in good condition. Print your child’s name in the front cover of the book. Bins will be located throughout the school to drop off items. Volunteers will organize the books by grade level. Towards the end of the month each class will have a specific time to go choose a “new” book. Any extra books will be donated to a charity.
